SECURITY FAILURES EXPOSED AFTER GHANAIAN TRADERS KILLED IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE
The tragic killing of Ghanaian tomato traders in Côte d’Ivoire has reignited calls for urgent reforms in Ghana’s security sector, highlighting serious gaps in intelligence, preparedness, and cross-border protection.
Speaking on Ghana Nti Today on ICAD TV, hosted by Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, security analyst Andrews Aseidu Tetteh warned:
“Our citizens were left unprotected even though the government knew about tensions in the neighbouring country. Bigger tragedies could occur if reforms are delayed.”
security needs more than ceremonial guards
Mr. Aseidu Tetteh stressed that Ghana’s security system must go beyond guards at doors. He called for:
Advanced training for all security personnel
Modern equipment and technology
Intelligence-led, proactive operations
Stronger border protection
He compared Ghana’s security practices with those abroad, noting that effective security requires continuous training, empowerment, and accountability, not just ceremonial presence.
government urged to act now
The analyst also urged the government to appoint substantive leadership in the defense and security ministries, warning that acting officials and leadership gaps put citizens at risk.
“Delays in reforms endanger lives and weaken national security,” he said.
