Madam Diana Nyonkopah Daniels, President of Peace Watch Ghana, has called on Ghanaians, particularly political actors and public figures, to desist from insulting former presidents and promote respect in political discourse. Madam Daniels said that if former presidents John Agyekum Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama were all in her home, she would be happy to receive them and would not insult any of them. She explained that her upbringing and Christian values taught her to respect elders and people in authority. According to her, she was raised by her parents with strong moral and Christian values, which guide her conduct toward national leaders. Madam Daniels stressed that regardless of whether a former president performed well or poorly during his tenure, that should not be an excuse for personal insults or disrespect. She therefore appealed to politicians and their supporters to change their attitudes and focus on issues rather than attacking individuals or their families. She urged Ghanaians to respect the country's former leaders and allow history, evidence and the appropriate institutions to assess their records in office. Madam Daniels maintained that political disagreements should be handled with maturity, tolerance and respect in order to promote peace and national unity.
