Lawyers for Chairman Wontumi have appealed to the court for leniency, arguing that the statutory minimum sentence of 15 years and maximum of 25 years is excessive in the circumstances of the case.

Counsel submitted that Wontumi is a first-time offender and urged the court to take that into account in determining an appropriate sentence.

NB: Justice Audrey Kocuvie Tay has not yet delivered her sentence. The court's decision is still pending.
