FIRE DESTROYS MTN MAST POWER PLANT AT AKYEM BEGORO
A fire outbreak has destroyed the power plant of an MTN telecommunications mast near Presby School along the Begoro–Kristom road in Akyem Begoro, in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
Personnel from the Begoro Fire Station responded promptly to the incident and extinguished the fire, preventing further damage.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, firefighters arrived at the scene to find flames engulfing the mast's power plant. The team ensured that electricity supply from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was disconnected before deploying a hose line to bring the fire under control and completely extinguish it.
Preliminary investigations suggest that power fluctuations may have caused the outbreak.
No casualties were recorded. However, the power plant was completely destroyed, with the estimated cost of damage put at GH¢200,000.
The incident raises concerns about the potential impact of electrical faults on telecommunications infrastructure and the safety of nearby properties.
