PRESIDENT MAHAMA IS POWER DRUNK AND CANNOT STAND CRITICISM"

The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has accused the administration of President John Dramani Mahama of using state institutions to intimidate political opponents. Speaking in an interview on ICAD TV's Ghana Nti Morning Show with host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, the Suhum MP alleged that the government was targeting opposition figures through arrests. Commenting on the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) internal elections, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe congratulated the winners, thanked delegates and all aspirants who contested, and called for unity and reconciliation within the party ahead of the 2028 general elections. According to the MP, President Mahama is "power drunk" and cannot stand criticism. He claimed that if members of the opposition were being arrested for criticising the President, then "he should prepare to arrest five million Ghanaians." Hon. Asiedu Bekoe further argued that President Mahama was not arrested when he allegedly referred to Akyem people as "sakawa," questioning what he described as the selective application of the law. Commenting on the arrest of Dennis Aboagye, popularly known as "Miracles," the MP alleged that the arrest was politically motivated and intended to intimidate members of the opposition. He said the government should rather focus on addressing unemployment and other pressing national issues. The Suhum MP also criticised Parliament over the removal of journalists from the parliamentary chamber during proceedings involving the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He alleged that journalists were only allowed to cover the press conference after the proceedings and claimed the move was intended to prevent Ghanaians from learning about measures implemented by the previous NPP administration to stabilise the cedi. On the GH¢350 million announced by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to support victims of the recent floods, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe questioned the source of the funds and called on the Attorney General to investigate the matter. He argued that the funds should be fully accounted for and insisted that if the Finance Minister failed to explain the source of the money, the Attorney General should resign. He alleged that the government lacked transparency. Addressing the recent flooding, the MP criticised President Mahama's aerial inspection of affected communities and alleged that the floods were worsened after the government terminated Zoomlion Ghana Limited's sanitation contract and reassigned waste management responsibilities to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). Hon. Asiedu Bekoe also criticised the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, alleging that the institution had exceeded its mandate by acting as though it were a court. He warned Mr. Archer to "prepare for 2029" and suggested he could face legal action should the NPP return to power. The allegations and opinions expressed by Hon.
