Two people have died and several others are receiving treatment following a fatal road accident on the Fodoa–Nadieso stretch of the Kumasi highway in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region. The accident occurred in the early hours of today when a cargo vehicle collided with a long truck transporting bottled water. According to the Nkawkaw Municipal Fire Commander, Divisional Officer Grade Two (DO II) Samuel Mante, the cargo vehicle, with registration number GW 644-N, reportedly developed a mechanical fault, leading to the collision with the truck, bearing registration number ER-101-12. The impact of the crash claimed the lives of two occupants at the scene, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw, where they are receiving emergency medical treatment. Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, together with other security agencies, responded promptly to the scene to rescue trapped victims and clear the roadway to restore the flow of traffic. Speaking after the incident, DO II Samuel Mante urged motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations, particularly during vehicle breakdowns. He emphasized the importance of placing warning triangles at the appropriate distance to alert approaching drivers and reduce the risk of secondary collisions. He also appealed to all road users to carry out regular vehicle maintenance and remain vigilant while driving to help prevent avoidable road accidents.
