STUDENTS AND TEACHERS EVICTED FROM ASESEWA COMMUNITY A BASIC SCHOOL AMID HEAVY RAIN

Today on ICAD TV’s Ghana Nti Morning Show, hosted by Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asrifi, our reporter Osofoba brought in a disturbing report from the Upper Manya Krobo District. Students and teachers of Asesewa Community A Basic School were reportedly forced out of their classrooms during a heavy downpour on Monday, June 22, 2026, leaving them stranded without shelter. According to the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Isaac Tettey Amanor, the school building was formerly known as Amen Private School. He explained that the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly had earlier entered into an agreement with the owner of the property to take over and operate it as a public basic school. However, the owner of the property, Mr. Patrick Lawaer, together with some family members, allegedly stormed the school premises and ordered both pupils and teachers to vacate the classrooms. Mr. Lawaer, however, maintains that the District Assembly breached the agreement between the parties, adding that he and his family could no longer allow the property to be used as a school. The sudden action left pupils and teachers stranded in the rain, disrupting academic activities for the day. The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Olimpio, confirmed that the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities for urgent intervention. Efforts by the Chief of the community, Nene Dade Mantse John Addo, to restore calm reportedly proved unsuccessful, as the property owners insisted on reclaiming their facility. The incident has raised concern among parents and education stakeholders, who are calling on authorities to intervene swiftly to restore normal teaching and learning conditions.
