Hobor Market Faces Sanitation Crisis Over Public Toilet Management

The public toilet at Hobor Market in the Ga South Municipality is facing concerns over its management, maintenance and sanitation. The facility was reportedly constructed during the tenure of the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga South Municipal Assembly to serve residents and market users. According to concerns raised by market users, there have been disagreements and questions surrounding the arrangements for managing the facility. It is alleged that the Queen Mother of Hobor Market was not aware of some of the arrangements until she reportedly noticed that a hole was being dug for use as a toilet. The former Assembly Member subsequently intervened and supported the construction of the public toilet and arrangements were made for someone to take responsibility for its operation. However, residents and market users are now calling for a more effective management system to ensure that the facility is regularly cleaned, properly maintained and kept in hygienic condition. There are also concerns about the general sanitation situation around the market. Residents say rubbish is sometimes left in the area and, although some cleaning and burning of waste takes place, unpleasant smells reportedly remain. The Queen Mother of Hobor Market has expressed her commitment to improving the market.
