ECONOMIST SUPPORTS RICE PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTH KOREA, SAYS IT WILL CREATE JOBS FOR FARMERS
An economist, Emmanuel Amoah Darkwah, has supported the rice partnership between Ghana and South Korea, saying it will help reduce the country’s heavy spending on rice importation. Speaking in an interview with Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on the Ghana Nti on ICAD TV, Mr. Amoah Darkwah said the initiative shows policy continuity and will help Ghana save money spent on importing rice. He noted that although many people in Ghana prefer foreign rice to local rice, increasing local production will still benefit the country. According to him, the initiative could support the school feeding programme, while also creating employment opportunities for farmers. “This is a step in the right direction and a quick intervention that will help farmers,” he stated.
