POLITICAL ANALYST EXPLAINS CJ PETITION, STATE VS GOVERNMENT ON GHANA NTI.

On ICAD TV’s “Ghana Nti” morning show, host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asrifi interviewed political analyst Nana Piesie Anto about the Chief Justice’s rejection of petitions involving the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the Kpandai election. Mr. Anto explained the difference between government and state: The government consists of officials who can be removed according to the law. The state consists of institutions and officials who work for the country, and the government cannot remove them. He said that in the CJ case, the President and government have no power to remove the EC or OSP, as these are state institutions. He praised the government for allowing state institutions to operate independently, saying it is a positive practice. The analyst also commented on governance, saying if a leader does good work — such as constructing roads — it should be applauded, regardless of political affiliation. He added that people who claim Mahama should contest again may not fully understand politics.
