OSOFO KYIRI ABOSOM SHARES HIS VIEWS ON THE RECENT FLOODS IN ACCRA

Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, is the founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre and the founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM). He is also a Ghanaian pastor and politician who contested the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections as the GUM presidential candidate. The devastating floods that struck Accra, Ghana's capital, on Monday caused widespread destruction, leaving many residents grieving the loss of their homes, properties, and, in some cases, loved ones. Speaking in an interview on ICAD TV's Ghana Nti Morning Show with host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Osofo Kyiri Abosom shared his views on the causes of the flooding. According to Osofo Kyiri Abosom, the floods were largely the result of the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage systems by some Ghanaians. He stated that many people are aware of the harmful consequences of this practice but continue to dispose of waste in drains, leading to blockages that contribute to flooding during heavy rainfall. He also criticized what he described as the government's failure to reconstruct and properly maintain the Korle Lagoon, arguing that blockages in the lagoon have made it difficult for floodwaters to flow freely. Referring to the administrations of former Presidents John Dramani Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Osofo Kyiri Abosom claimed that both governments made commitments to rehabilitate the Korle Lagoon but failed to complete the project. He argued that the continued poor condition of the lagoon has contributed to the recurring floods in Accra. The comments reflect Osofo Kyiri Abosom's views as expressed during the interview.
