MR. SAMUEL OBIMPAH RAISES CONCERNS OVER DISCIPLINE AND TEACHER AUTHORITY IN SCHOOLS
Educationalist Mr Samuel Obimpah has raised concerns about declining discipline in some educational institutions, warning that teachers and school authorities appear to be struggling to enforce school rules effectively. Speaking to Journalist Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Mr Obimpah reacted to the reported incident involving the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr Zakaria, whose residence was allegedly attacked and set ablaze by some students. Mr Obimpah argued that although Ghana has laws to regulate behaviour and maintain order, the apparent failure to enforce them effectively has become a concern. He further observed that teachers are increasingly taking matters into their own hands and acting as they wish, highlighting the need for clear rules, accountability and proper supervision within the education sector. According to him, the situation requires urgent attention from education authorities, school management, parents and other stakeholders to restore discipline and strengthen respect for teachers and school administrators. He maintained that violence should not be tolerated in schools and that disputes between students and teachers must be addressed through lawful and appropriate channels.
