EDUCATIONALIST QUESTIONS EFFECTIVENESS OF GHANA’S LAWS FOLLOWING OBUASI SHTS HEADMASTER INCIDENT
Educationalist Mr. Samuel Obimpah has questioned the effectiveness of Ghana’s laws following the reported suspension of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) Headmaster, Mr. Zakaria, and the alleged attack on him by some students. Speaking in an interview with Journalist Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Mr. Obimpah expressed concern over the reported incident in which some students allegedly went to the headmaster’s residence, set his house on fire and assaulted him. According to Mr. Obimpah, Ghana has numerous laws intended to maintain law and order, protect citizens and ensure accountability, but he believes their implementation remains a major challenge. He stressed that the situation raises serious questions about discipline, respect for school authorities and the enforcement of the law in educational institutions. Mr. Obimpah called for the appropriate authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure that those found responsible for the alleged attack are held accountable in accordance with the law. He further emphasized the need to protect teachers and school administrators from violence while promoting peaceful ways of resolving disagreements within schools.
