MR. ASIEDU RAISES CONCERNS OVER ONLINE PAYMENTS IN BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS
Security expert Mr. Andrews Tetteh Asiedu has cautioned against the risks associated with making substantial payments for business transactions online without adequate verification of the other party. Speaking to Journalist Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Mr. Asiedu cited an example of a person allegedly paying GH¢32,000 for a vehicle without physically seeing the seller. He questioned the wisdom of transferring such a significant amount without sufficient checks to establish the identity of the seller and confirm the legitimacy of the transaction. According to him, buyers and sellers must take practical steps to protect themselves against possible fraud, especially when dealing with expensive items such as vehicles. Mr. Asiedu suggested that involving independent witnesses and conducting transactions through a bank could help improve accountability and provide evidence of payment. He stressed that online transactions require careful verification and that people should not allow convenience or pressure from sellers to prevent them from carrying out the necessary checks. He urged the public to exercise caution and ensure that all important details are properly documented before transferring money for goods or services.
