Kasoa Petty Traders Petition Trade Ministry Over Eviction Threat

Petty traders at the Kasoa Old Market Centre in Kasoa have formally petitioned the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry over plans by the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly to evict them from their trading spaces. The petition, presented on Thursday, March 26, 2026, by the Kasoa Petty Traders Association, is calling for urgent government intervention to halt the intended eviction exercise. According to the traders, the move could severely impact their livelihoods, as many depend entirely on daily sales for survival. They explained that they have occupied their current trading areas for years and that any sudden eviction without proper alternatives would disrupt their businesses and income. In response, the Ministry has acknowledged receipt of the petition and assured the traders that their concerns will be addressed. Speaking to the media, Director for Industries, Kofi Addo, stated that the petition will be forwarded to the Minister for further action. He emphasized that the issue is important and that the Ministry will engage relevant stakeholders, including the Municipal Assembly, to find a lasting solution. He added that dialogue and cooperation will be key to ensuring fairness and maintaining order at the market.
