HON. AKWASI ACQUAH (MP FOR ODA) DESCRIBES DUAL CITIZENSHIP RULES AS A GOOD INITIATIVE
Hon.Akwasi Acquah has described Ghana’s rules on dual citizenship and eligibility for public office as a good initiative that should be respected and properly followed. Speaking in an interview with Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on ICAD TV’s Ghana Nti Today morning show, the Oda MP noted that individuals seeking to contest parliamentary elections while holding foreign citizenship must comply fully with Ghana’s legal requirements. He explained that although there are ongoing discussions about allowing qualified individuals to serve Ghana regardless of citizenship status, he believes the existing legal framework provides the right structure to ensure order and fairness in governance. He added that some Ghanaians acquire foreign citizenship for practical reasons such as travel convenience and opportunities abroad, but emphasized that such decisions must still align with Ghana’s laws. He concluded by encouraging respect for the law and describing the dual citizenship regulations as a positive and necessary initiative for national governance.
