BREAKING NEWS: Another Truck Falls Into Afram River At Adawso
Adawso, Eastern Region - Panic has gripped commuters and traders at Adawso in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District after another truck plunged into the Afram River. The incident, which occurred at the ferry crossing point between Adawso and Ekye Amanfrom, is the latest in a series of similar accidents on the river. Eyewitnesses say the heavily loaded truck was attempting to board the ferry when it reportedly lost control and fell into the river. The driver and mate are said to have narrowly escaped. The accident has caused heavy vehicular traffic on both sides of the river, with dozens of trucks, buses and traders who depend on the ferry to transport goods to and from the Afram Plains left stranded. Local boat operators had to be called in to assist with rescue efforts, as has been the case in previous incidents. Residents and drivers have renewed calls for urgent government intervention, lamenting that the only ferry serving the crossing has been operating on a single engine for years, making it unsafe and unreliable. Many traders say they have to wait for hours at Adawso or Ekye Amanfrom before they can cross, paying exorbitant fares while risking their lives and goods. This latest accident adds to growing concerns about safety on the Afram River, where breakdowns, drifting of the ferry mid-stream, and trucks falling into the river have become frequent. Authorities from the Volta Lake Transport Company and the District Assembly are yet to comment on today's incident, while efforts are underway to retrieve the truck from the river and restore ferry operations.
