AFIGYA KWABRE COCOA FARMERS CRY OVER PRICE CUT, STAGE DEMONSTRATION
Ashanti Region, Ghana – Cocoa farmers in Afigya Kwabre have staged demonstrations following complaints over cocoa price cuts. Farmers say that those who sold their cocoa earlier this year were initially promised GH₵3,500 per bag. However, when they went to collect payment, cocoa officers reportedly told them that network problems prevented their receipts from reaching government systems.
As a result, early sellers were informed that they would now be paid the newly announced price, creating frustration and confusion among farmers. Demonstrators said the situation has made February particularly difficult for cocoa farmers in the region, leading them to take to the streets to demand fair treatment.
