Security Expert Andrews Asiedu Tetteh Backs Mahama’s GH¢5,000 Support for Ghanaians Evacuated from South Africa

Security expert Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has commended President John Dramani Mahama for the government’s decision to provide financial assistance to Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals. Speaking in an interview on ICADTV Ghana Nti Morning Show, Mr. Tetteh described the government’s decision to give each returnee GH¢5,000 as a timely intervention to help them rebuild their lives. According to him, many of the affected Ghanaians fled South Africa under emergency circumstances and returned home without adequate preparation or financial resources. He said the financial support would enable them to start small businesses and gradually regain their livelihoods. Mr. Tetteh stressed that the government’s intervention demonstrates its commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaian citizens, particularly those affected by crises beyond the country’s borders. He further urged the government to extend additional support to all Ghanaians who have been displaced by the xenophobic attacks, noting that many returnees will require sustained assistance, including livelihood programmes and economic empowerment initiatives, to successfully reintegrate into society.
