Okada Riders Disappointed in Mahama Over Unfulfilled Promises

The Secretary of the Okada Riders Association, Mr. Majid Adamu, has expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama, accusing his administration of failing to fulfil key promises made to commercial motorcycle riders before the 2024 general elections. Speaking in an interview on ICADTV Ghana Nti Morning Show, Mr. Adamu said members of the association had expected the government to announce policies benefiting Okada riders during the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review. However, he said the sector was completely left out. According to him, commercial motorcycle riders played a significant role in the party’s campaign by mobilising support in communities and “from ghetto to ghetto” to help bring the government to power. He noted that the riders therefore expected the government to honour the commitments it made to them. Mr. Adamu said the government had promised to support the association with electronic motorcycles, facilitate the acquisition of riders’ licences, and provide insurance coverage to improve their operations and safety. He explained that the association is well organised, with registered members who possess official membership cards, contrary to claims that the sector is unregulated. Mr. Adamu also dismissed reports linking Okada riders to recent demonstrations over the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye. He insisted that the individuals involved were not genuine commercial motorcycle riders. According to him, those who participated in the protest were “ghetto boys” allegedly hired for the demonstration and should not be mistaken for members of the Okada Riders Association.
