Political Analyst Siaw Mandela Backs Mahama’s Reshuffle, Praises Agalga and Criticises Ghanaian Politicians

Political Analyst Siaw Mandela has described President John Dramani Mahama’s latest ministerial reshuffle as a good decision, saying the individuals appointed are capable of delivering on their respective mandates. Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on ICADTV Ghana Nti Morning Show , Mr. Mandela called for an amendment to the Constitution to require any government that undertakes a ministerial reshuffle to provide clear reasons for the changes. He urged the ongoing constitutional review process to consider introducing such a provision to promote transparency and accountability in government. According to him, the appointment of Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs is appropriate because of his extensive experience in government and his previous service in different ministerial portfolios. He said Mr. Ayariga’s experience makes him capable of understanding and effectively handling the responsibilities of his new office. Mr. Mandela also praised James Agalga, describing him as a politician who combines toughness with gentleness. He argued that Agalga is a better performer than Ayariga and claimed that Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin would be no match for him in terms of political strength and experience. He further maintained that all the ministers appointed by President Mahama have the necessary capabilities to perform their respective duties. However, Mr. Mandela expressed concern about Ghana’s political leadership, arguing that many politicians are more focused on developing themselves and their families than on developing the country. He stressed the need for politicians to prioritise the national interest and work towards improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians. Mr. Mandela concluded that although President Mahama may not be perfect, he considers the current ministerial appointments to be the best option available to the government at this stage.
