PEACE PREVAILS IN NPP CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS IN THE EASTERN REGION

Peace Prevails in NPP Constituency Elections in the Eastern Region The New Patriotic Party (NPP) successfully conducted its constituency elections across most parts of the Eastern Region on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with the exercise generally proceeding peacefully. In the Atiwa East Constituency, Hon. Albert Nii Armah was elected as the new Constituency Chairman after securing a decisive victory over his contender, Mr. Kafui Amegah. Hon. Armah polled 500 votes, while Mr. Amegah obtained 100 votes. Across the Eastern Region, 33 constituencies were expected to participate in the elections, with more than 33,000 delegates eligible to vote. However, voting was conducted in only 30 constituencies. In Akim Oda, the election has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 18, 2026, following the death of the personal assistant to the Member of Parliament. Meanwhile, in Akim Swedru, voting in one electoral area was suspended after an injunction was placed on the process. A court hearing has been scheduled for July 20, 2026, after which the electoral process is expected to resume. The election in Abuakwa North was suspended indefinitely following a misunderstanding among constituency party executives. In Atiwa West, Hon. Paddy Amposah Douglas was elected as the new Constituency Chairman. The elections, supervised by the Electoral Commission, were held to elect new constituency executives who will steer the affairs of the party over the next four years.
