OSOFO KYIRI ABOSOM SHARES HIS VIEWS ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND THANKSGIVING

Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, is the founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre and the founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM). He is a Ghanaian pastor and politician who contested the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections as the GUM presidential candidate. Speaking on ICAD TV's Ghana Nti Morning Show with host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Osofo Kyiri Abosom shared his views on the significance of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, held at the State House on July 1, 2026, was set aside as a day for Ghanaians to pray and give thanks for the nation. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye, the National Chief Imam, and other religious and political leaders. During the interview, Osofo Kyiri Abosom expressed the opinion that the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving does not have significant practical importance for Ghana. According to him, while prayer has its place, the government should prioritize addressing pressing national challenges, particularly flooding and its impact on affected communities. He also argued that some of the pastors who participated in the event were among those who had previously supported the construction of the National Cathedral project under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which he described as having been abandoned. He suggested that although prayer is important, greater attention should be given to solving the country's developmental challenges. Osofo Kyiri Abosom further stated that, in his view, no pastor in the country could be singled out as having brought about significant national transformation. He concluded by criticizing the current approach to national issues, saying, "They are a mess." The comments reflect Osofo Kyiri Abosom's views as expressed during the interview.
