Ofori-Atta's Return Is Not the Solution to Ghana's Problems"

Security expert Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has stated that the return of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to face corruption-related investigations or charges should not be viewed as the solution to Ghana's current economic challenges. His comments follow an appeal by President John Dramani Mahama during the Reset Tour and Citizens' Engagement in the Volta Region, in which the President urged Mr. Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana and assured him of a fair trial under the country's judicial system. The President also said that failing to return could affect Mr. Ofori-Atta's reputation and that of his family. Speaking on ICAD TV's Ghana Nti Morning Show with Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on Monday, July 20, Mr. Tetteh cautioned Ghanaians against portraying Mr. Ofori-Atta as the sole cause of the country's economic difficulties. "Ofori-Atta's return is not the solution to Ghana's problems," he said. Mr. Tetteh noted that, given President Mahama's political experience, he believed the President's remarks were made in a light-hearted manner rather than as a formal legal directive. He further argued that matters involving individuals facing legal investigations or proceedings should be handled through established legal and diplomatic processes, rather than through public appeals.
