Mahama Government Will Deliver Key Reforms Before the End of Its First Term

Technical Advisor to the Government Spokesperson, Gloria Dzifa Ashingo, has assured Ghanaians that the Mahama administration remains committed to delivering its major policy commitments before the end of its four-year term. Speaking on ICAD TV's Ghana Nti Morning Show, Ms. Ashingo said the government is focused on implementing reforms across the economy, governance, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment. According to her, the full operationalisation of the 24-Hour Economy remains one of the government's flagship priorities. She explained that the administration is working to complete the necessary legislative framework by amending labour and tax laws to regulate night-shift work, strengthen worker protection, and introduce discounted electricity tariffs for businesses operating under the policy. She noted that the government also plans to establish regional industrial enclaves, known as Wumbei Parks, equipped with dedicated power and security to support 24-hour agro-processing and manufacturing. In addition, major public institutions, including the Ports and Harbours, Customs, the Passport Office, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), are expected to extend their operations to provide round-the-clock services. On governance reforms, Ms. Ashingo said the government intends to implement key recommendations from the Constitutional Review Committee. These include establishing an Independent Public Emoluments Commission to replace the Article 71 framework and transferring the Attorney-General's prosecutorial powers to an independent anti-corruption agency. She added that the administration also plans to introduce limits on the number of Supreme Court justices, strengthen controls on executive spending and tax exemptions, and enforce mandatory asset declaration and a code of conduct for all executive appointees. Speaking on economic empowerment, Ms. Ashingo said the government will fully roll out the Women's Development Bank to provide affordable loans and financial services to more than one million women-led businesses. She also highlighted the expansion of the National Apprenticeship Programme, which will provide free technical and vocational training, equipment, certification, and start-up support for young artisans. She further stated that the Adwumawura Programme will continue to mentor, finance, and support approximately 10,000 young entrepreneurs each year to establish and grow sustainable businesses. On infrastructure and healthcare, Ms. Ashingo said the government remains committed to completing outstanding Community Day Senior High Schools (E-Blocks), expanding regional and district health facilities, establishing dialysis centres across the country, improving the posting of health professionals, and advancing major road and rail projects, including the Golden Triangle and Eastern Corridor road networks. She expressed confidence that by the end of President John Dramani Mahama's first term, Ghanaians would witness significant progress in job creation, industrialisation, governance reforms, women's and youth empowerment, healthcare delivery, education, and infrastructure development.
