KIM LARS IS NOT A BAD CHOICE TO HANDLE THE BLACK STARS – COACH ERNEST THOMPSON, FORMER EBUSUA DWARFS HEAD COACH
Former Ebusua Dwarfs head coach Ernest Thompson has stated that Kim Lars is not a bad choice to handle the Black Stars, although he believes Ghana should give more opportunities to local coaches to manage the senior national team.
According to Coach Thompson, selecting a coach requires careful consideration of several criteria. He believes appointing an interim coach to lead the Black Stars in the short term is a reasonable decision while the country considers its long-term coaching options.
“Kim Lars is not a bad coach to handle the Black Stars. However, I would suggest that we give our local coaches the opportunity to lead the national team instead of relying on foreign coaches. Some of our local coaches are even better than their foreign counterparts,” he stated.
Coach Thompson also questioned the suitability of interim assistant coaches John Paintsil and Godwin Attram for their current positions, arguing that being a good footballer does not automatically make someone a good coach.
“If you are a good player, it does not necessarily mean you will be a good coach as well,” he added.
He further praised Didi Dramani, describing him as a very good coach who deserves consideration for a role with the national team. However, he advised against appointing Maxwell Konadu, arguing that he had previously been given opportunities but had failed to make the desired impact.
Coach Thompson also called on members of the Ghana Football Association's Executive Council to improve their capacity and decision-making when appointing coaches for the various national teams.
He identified the process of selecting coaches as one of the major challenges facing Ghanaian football, stressing that fundamental issues in the appointment process must be addressed to improve the performance of the national teams.
“There is something fundamentally wrong with how we select our coaches. If you fail to plan, then you have planned to fail,” he said.
Coach Ernest Thompson made these remarks during an interview with Paul Napoleon Agyeman, host of Scoreboard.
