GOVERNMENT SHOULD MAINTAIN THE INITIAL PRICE MP SAYS FARMERS MUST BE PROTECTED
Mr. Frank Aseidu Bekoe populary known as protosua said government should maintain the earlier price instead of reducing it.
He explained that every new government inherits some level of national debt, but this should not be used as a reason to reduce payments to cocoa farmers.
According to him, cocoa farmers depend on their produce for survival. Reducing the price will affect their families, education of their children, and daily living conditions.
He also said that salaries of workers are not reduced when the economy faces challenges, so cocoa farmers should not be treated differently.
The MP added that government must find better ways to manage the cocoa sector without pushing the burden onto farmers.
