GOVERNANCE IS CONTINUOUS, NOT POLITICAL OWNERSHIP OF PROJECTS” – ISAAC OPOKU CALLS FOR COMPLETION OF ABANDONED PROJECTS

Hon. Isaac Opoku, Member of Parliament for Offinso South, has emphasized the need for continuity in governance and the completion of all ongoing public projects across political administrations. Speaking on ICAD TV’s Ghana Nti Morning Show, hosted by Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asrifi, he stated that governance is a continuous process where every government inherits both assets and liabilities from previous administrations. He explained that national development should not be politicized, especially when it comes to projects funded by taxpayers’ money. Hon. Opoku appealed to successive governments, including President John Dramani Mahama, to ensure that all uncompleted projects are completed rather than abandoned. He warned that abandoning projects results in wastage of public funds and slows national development. He cited the University of Ghana Medical Centre as an example of successful continuity between different governments, describing it as a model Ghana should emulate. He further suggested that Ghana should consider a policy that compels governments to complete ongoing projects before initiating new ones. He added that in many developed countries, governments continue projects regardless of changes in political leadership.
