*Ghana Records 337,435 People Living with HIV

Madam Rita Afriyie, Technical Coordinator for Greater Accra at the Technical Support Unit of the Ghana AIDS Commission, has disclosed that an estimated *337,435* people are living with HIV in Ghana. According to her, women account for a higher proportion of HIV cases than men, while young people between the ages of *15 and 24 years* also remain a major concern, with *approximately 33,000* young people living with HIV. Madam Afriyie explained that some people may be living with HIV without knowing their status because they have not undergone testing. She stressed that HIV cannot be identified simply by looking at a person, and that testing remains the surest way to know one's HIV status. She noted that some people may only seek medical attention when they become sick or experience persistent health problems, which could delay diagnosis and access to appropriate treatment and care. Madam Afriyie further indicated that Ghana recorded *approximately 13,000* new HIV infections in 2025, while about *12,000* people died from HIV-related causes during the same period. On the situation in the Greater Accra Region, she stated that the estimated number of people living with HIV was *77,821 in 2024,* but the figure has since reduced to *approximately 77,512.* She therefore encouraged the public, particularly young people, to take HIV prevention seriously, undergo regular HIV testing, know their status, and seek appropriate medical care and support when necessary. She emphasized that knowing one's HIV status early can help individuals access the necessary care and support and take steps to prevent further transmission.
