GA WEST MCE HIGHLIGHTS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS, SANITATION DRIVE, AND YOUTH INITIATIVES.

Accra, Ghana – Hon. John Desmond Sowah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West, has detailed ongoing development projects, youth initiatives, and sanitation efforts aimed at improving living conditions in the municipality. Speaking in an interview with Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on ICAD TV’s morning show Ghana Nti, Hon. Sowah described Ga West as the “gateway to Accra from Côte d’Ivoire” and the third-largest constituency in Ghana, with a road network of approximately 185.65 kilometres. Infrastructure and Education The MCE highlighted key infrastructure projects, including: Upgrades to the Nsawam Road and Ablekuma-Joma Road Construction of a teachers’ quarters (storey building) and six-unit classroom block Improvements at Kotoku and Afuaman Schools Development of a school facility at Mempemehoasem and a CHPS compound at Amasaman Hon. Sowah emphasized that these projects build on previous government initiatives, including legacy projects from former President Mahama, while ensuring completion and proper oversight. Youth and Sports Development Addressing the needs of the youthful population, the MCE announced plans to construct a major astro turf facility in Amasaman. The project awaits Ministry of Finance approval and is expected to be completed within two years. Employment and 24-Hour Economy On job creation, Hon. Sowah referenced the government’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA) initiative, which collects data on young people to facilitate employment opportunities. He also highlighted the proposed 24-hour economy, explaining that night-shift opportunities are being promoted while ensuring safety for workers and businesses. Sanitation as a Priority Hon. Sowah revealed that regular cleaning exercises have been introduced across the municipality to improve public health and environmental conditions. He called on residents to support these initiatives by maintaining cleanliness and avoiding dumping waste into gutters. Political Commentary The MCE expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would struggle in upcoming elections, particularly if Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) were to return as running mate to Vice President Bawumia. He argued that the opposition has lost public confidence due to unfulfilled promises, contrasting it with his administration’s achievements in just seven months. Hon. Sowah concluded by urging Ghanaians to support government development projects and civic responsibility to make Ga West and the country a better place.
