ECONOMIST QUESTIONS EFFECTIVENESS OF COMMUNITY MINING AS ALTERNATIVE TO GALAMSEY

Economist Dr. Hayford Ayerakwa has questioned the effectiveness of community mining initiatives in addressing illegal mining and creating sustainable employment for young people. In an interview with Journalist Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Dr. Ayerakwa expressed concern about the availability of functional community mining initiatives and the alternative jobs being provided to young people. He called on the government to assess existing programmes and introduce sustainable employment opportunities to help tackle illegal mining.
