DRUG ARREST OPERATION ENDS IN TRAGEDY AS THREE KILLED, TWO INJURED IN SEFWI SAYERANO
Three people have been killed and two others injured following a violent confrontation between police officers and residents of Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso Municipality of the Western North Region. The incident reportedly occurred during an operation by officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command to arrest a suspected drug peddler. According to reports, some residents resisted the arrest, leading to a clash between the police and members of the community. During the confrontation, gunshots were fired, leaving five people with gunshot wounds. Two victims died at the scene, while a third later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The remaining two victims are currently receiving medical treatment. The shooting triggered unrest in the community, with angry residents blocking major roads and reportedly setting a local police post ablaze in protest. In response to the incident, the Ghana Police Service has interdicted eight police officers who took part in the operation to allow for a full, fair, and impartial investigation. The Inspector-General of Police has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and establish the facts of the case. Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. He urged the relevant authorities to ensure justice for the victims and their families and to take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation. The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation and has appealed for calm as inquiries continue.
