COALITION OF UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES WITH DISABILITIES GIVES GOVERNMENT ONE-WEEK ULTIMATUM OVER GES RECRUITMENT

The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities has given the government a one-week ultimatum to address concerns over the exclusion of its members from the recent teacher recruitment exercise conducted by the Ghana Education Service (GES). The coalition is calling on the government to employ qualified graduates with disabilities who applied for teaching positions but were not recruited. Speaking with Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on "Ghana Nti" Morning Show on ICAD TV, the President of the Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities, Mr. Felix Baah, alleged that persons with disabilities continue to face discrimination during public sector recruitment despite possessing the required academic qualifications. According to him, many qualified graduates with disabilities remain unemployed because the government has failed to create equal employment opportunities for them. Mr. Baah cited Articles 29(6), 29(7), 29(8), 17(2), 17(3), and 37(2)(b) of the 1992 Constitution, arguing that these provisions guarantee equal rights, protection against discrimination, and the promotion of opportunities for persons with disabilities. He stressed that disability is not a matter of personal choice and urged the public to recognise that anyone could become disabled at any point in life. Mr. Baah said the coalition issued the ultimatum to draw the attention of President John Dramani Mahama to their concerns and appealed for urgent intervention to ensure qualified graduates with disabilities are given fair consideration in public sector employment.
