Security Expert Andrews Asiedu Tetteh Calls for Temporary Suspension of Democracy,
Mr. Tetteh also proposed that Ghana temporarily suspend its democratic system for five years and adopt an alternative method of governance to strengthen state institutions before returning to constitutional democracy. He argued that Ghana’s cultural and social structures have weakened democratic governance and that a temporary restructuring of the system would help build stronger institutions capable of promoting accountability, discipline and national development. The security expert further questioned why the government has not appointed a substantive Minister for Defence following the death of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who died in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. He called on the government to publicly explain the reasons for the delay, stressing that the Defence Ministry is a critical institution that should not remain without a substantive minister for an extended period. He added that the position should be occupied by any qualified, competent and knowledgeable individual capable of effectively leading Ghana’s defence sector.
