Bagbara stated that Ghana’s participation in the Commonwealth Games is not only about sporting competition but also provides an opportunity to attract investment, showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage, and promote Ghana’s image on the international stage.

Speaking in an interview on ICADTV Sports, Tanko said the Ministry is pleased with Team Ghana’s participation in the Commonwealth Games, describing the country’s representation on the international stage as an important achievement.

According to him, Ghana’s participation at the Games goes beyond competing in sporting disciplines such as boxing and athletics, as it also provides an opportunity to showcase the country’s cultural heritage, attract investment opportunities, and promote sports development.

Tanko said government remains committed to improving sports infrastructure by upgrading existing facilities and investing in new ones to support the long-term growth of sports in Ghana.

On preparations for the Commonwealth Games, he noted that government made the necessary budgetary allocations, while additional resources were mobilised through fundraising efforts to support Team Ghana’s participation.

Responding to concerns over Ghanaian supporters who travelled to Canada for the Black Stars’ match against Panama, Tanko clarified that the Ministry of Sports did not send or sponsor the supporters’ trip to Canada.

He explained that some supporters travelled to Canada individually and not through the Ministry. However, after the first match, the Ministry mobilised support for the supporters during their stay. He added that the assistance provided included accommodation, local transportation, meals, and stipends.

Tanko further stated that the supporters who were officially supported by the Ministry have all returned to Ghana.

Touching on payments to the Black Stars, Tanko disclosed that all financial obligations to the players have been settled, except the qualification bonus for reaching the Round of 32.

He explained that the Sports Fund and the Ministry are currently finalising the necessary financial calculations and administrative processes before the outstanding bonuses are paid.
