DR. SAMPSON ANOMAH SHARES HIS VIEWS ON THE RECENT FLOODS AND THE KORLE LAGOON

Dr. Sampson Anomah is a Ghanaian academic, chartered accountant, and legal professional. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Accountancy and Accounting Information Systems at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU). Speaking in a phone interview with Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on ICAD TV's Ghana Nti Morning Show, Dr. Sampson Anomah shared his views on the recent flooding in parts of Accra and the long-standing concerns surrounding the Korle Lagoon. According to Dr. Anomah, one of the major causes of the floods is the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into waterways and drainage systems. He argued that although many Ghanaians are aware of the consequences of this practice, some continue to dispose of waste improperly, resulting in blocked drains that contribute to flooding during heavy rainfall. He also criticized what he described as the politicization of national issues, stating that even disasters such as the recent floods often become subjects of political debate while affected residents continue to suffer the consequences. Dr. Anomah called for improved drainage infrastructure to ensure the free flow of water and help reduce the risk of flooding. He further claimed that successive governments have made commitments to rehabilitate the Korle Lagoon without delivering the expected results. Referring to former President John Dramani Mahama and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he said both administrations pledged to reconstruct the lagoon but, in his view, failed to complete the project.
